Plan B – Fighting the Winter Fat!
Winter is here and at this time of year it’s useful
to make some considered choices about what your winter fitness
and health regime will be. Some love their gym regime no matter
what the weather; they can just keep doing what they have
always done.
For others who do a lot more outdoor exercise it can get
a lot harder on those cold and wet days to get out there and
brave the elements. If you want to keep fit during the winter
months then other options need to be considered, rather than
moaning half way through winter saying it’s too wet,
cold or dark!!
So let’s get real. Are you absolutely happy to exercise
in the elements during winter? If not or only some of the
time then Plan B needs to be
put in place!
If you don’t like getting up in the dark, one of the
easiest things to do is actually sleep in a little later.
However not everyone is able to do this. How about getting
a fitness buddy so that you exercise together and motivate
each other. Could be going walking, running, swimming or cycling.
Another option is to join some kind of club that you would
enjoy. This can be fun, while meeting new people and also
involves movement. Some suggestions are dancing, tennis, soccer,
martial arts or badminton.
You can also use the weekends to keep moving. Go for relaxing
walks, visit the zoo or one of our DOC parks. Choose one day
in the weekend that you commit to being out and about for
a couple of hours.
Lastly buy Videos! A couch potato movie won’t quite
cut it but a Pilates or Yoga video will do the trick. Easy
exercise to do in the warmth of your home.
Tip
To keep that nasty constipation at bay eat a whole fruit
not just the juice as juice contains no fibre. Also eat Liquorice.
It is 50 percent sweeter than sugar but can be useful to get
the body moving!!
