Feeling Stuck in Life? You Might Just Be Believing Something That Isn't True Anymore

Have you ever found yourself saying, 'I know what I should do. I just can't seem to do it.' If that feeling of being stuck in life sounds familiar, you're in good company.

If you have, it’s one of the most common things I hear from women. And it’s one of the most frustrating feelings in the world - knowing what you want, being able to picture it, and still not moving toward it.

So what’s going on?

Here’s what I know about change: it’s almost never about capability. And it’s almost never about not wanting it enough. Most of the time, being stuck is a signal. And underneath that signal, there’s an old belief doing its job.

Why feeling stuck isn't a personality trait

This is important, so I want you to really take it in: being stuck is not who you are. It’s not a sign that you’re weak, or that you’re not cut out for change, or that you’ve somehow missed your window.

What looks like procrastination, or fear, or just going around in circles, is often just a belief doing exactly what it was designed to do. Keeping you safe. Keeping you in familiar territory. Keeping you from the risk of trying something and it not working out.

It's not a weakness. It's just how we work. The problem is, safe and familiar isn’t always where we need to be.

The limiting belief underneath feeling stuck

When I work with women who feel stuck, we always find something underneath it. Sometimes it’s obvious. Often it’s not. But it’s always there.

It might sound like:

“I’m too old to start something new.”

“What if I get it wrong. What will people think?”

“It’s too much work. Maybe I should just accept life as it is right now.”

These feel like logical, reasonable thoughts. They feel like the truth. But they’re not the truth. They’re just old stories running on repeat. Stories that were probably formed a long time ago and have never been updated.

The belief became a barrier. And because it feels so much like a fact, we stopped questioning it.

What I see right before something shifts

After years of sitting with women in this exact place, I’ve noticed a pattern.

First, there’s the doubt. The heaviness. The “I’ve tried before, and it hasn’t worked” feeling. Sometimes women are quite down on themselves at this point, questioning whether change is even possible for them. Fear sits right alongside it.

And then, this is the part I love, there’s a flicker. An inkling of hope. A tiny glimpse of possibility that maybe, just maybe, things could be different.

And when that inkling shows up? They are away. That small spark is all it takes.

So if you’re in doubt and the heaviness right now, you might be closer to your shift than you think.

You don’t have to believe something new overnight

Here’s the thing I want you to know - you don’t need to wake up tomorrow with a completely different mindset. That’s not how this works, and honestly, that’s not what I’d ask of you.

What I would ask is this: just get curious.

Next time you feel stuck, instead of pushing through or giving up, try asking - what am I believing right now? Where did that come from? Is it actually true today, or is it just something I’ve always assumed?

And then take one small action anyway. Not a big leap. Just one small step taken despite the doubt. Because one small action, taken while the belief is still there, is more powerful than waiting until you feel completely ready.

You will never feel completely ready. And that’s okay.

You are not behind

I want to leave you with this.

You are not broken. You are not behind. And you are not too late.

The stuck feeling - the doubt, the going around in circles, the “I know but I can’t” - is often the thing that happens right before a shift. It’s not a sign to stop. It’s a sign that something in you is ready to change, and the old belief is doing one last bit of resistance before it loosens its grip.

If this is landing for you right now, I’d love to walk alongside you and help you write your next chapter. That’s exactly the work we do together - in coaching, and in community. Come and find out more at allisonfisher.co.nz.

Warmly
Allison x
