Feeling Stuck? Here’s how to move forward.
At some stage in life, we all get there, we get stuck.
Asking ourselves questions like:
Where am I headed in my career and life?
What’s important to me now?
I would like more meaning.
I’ve no idea what to do to get unstuck.
Fear can bog us down
Behind all of these questions lies fear, especially when there is a significant change we want to make, such as a career change.
And the fear delays us from taking action.
But taking action actually gets us unstuck.
So in summary, you’re not really stuck; you’re just afraid of taking the next step.
Stop the overwhelm!
When we focus on the end result of the big things we want to change, such as a job, it can be overwhelming, especially if we are comfortable where we are. However, focusing on the end creates fear, inaction and stagnation.
We might also decide to wait until we feel better to try and get unstuck, but in my experience, waiting never stops; there’s always the next excuse not to act.
How do I get unstuck?
Honestly, it’s pretty simple: take some action, but do it in tiny steps so that overwhelm doesn’t take over. Focus on the steps rather than the end result.
If you can’t decide what is your next career step, write down what you would like in your next job or just start doing some research.
If you want to make more friends, consider things you enjoy and join a relevant group.
If you want to start exercising, start small by walking around the block three times a week or find a friend who wants to exercise with you.
Tiny Steps
When there is fear and overwhelm, it’s always best to start with small steps. Steps that are achievable and will gradually lead to the big result you want to achieve. There might be loads of tiny steps to reach your goal, but it’s those steps that will ultimately get you what you want!
